Ohio ranks 20th for funding per child in elementary and secondary schools

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Ohio ranks 20th in the nation for money spent per pupil in public elementary, middle, and high schools, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

In 2020, Ohio spent $13,805 per public school student. This is a 2% increase from 2019, when Ohio also ranked 20th with $13,538 spent per student, and is below the average increase in spending of 2.3% in the country, which is the smallest national increase since 2013.
